Erin Freeland
I am a painter in central Massachusetts. I grew up here, and I love nature and being outside. When I was younger I worked on farms and around horses. I graduated from Massachusetts College of Art & Design in 2006, and I currently work part time professional dog hiker and trainer. Often while out hiking, I photograph landscape and animals that inspire paintings. I work in oil, and my subjects range from animal portraits to landscapes and sometimes pop culture icons.
My work is about capturing the feeling of a moment in time, whether it is the mood created by the light, or the movement of the subject. In my portraits I aim to capture the animal’s likeness and spirit with expressive brushstrokes and color shifts. Some elements are suggested rather than plainly stated, drawing focus to a specific area and engaging the viewer into the story of the painting. I try to paint every day, and I can usually be found in my art studio blasting music and drinking coffee. I foster dogs, I’m a Star Trek fan, and I enjoy delicious hoppy beer.
